The Power of Happy (Marketing)


TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading." The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences.

This month, Senhoa’s Co-Founder and Executive Director, Lisa T.D. Nguyen, was invited to present her “ideas worth spreading” at the TEDx Orange Coast Conference held at Soka University.

We share with you an excerpt from Lisa’s presentation:

“I recently had an epiphany about my moral index. I used to think every time I saw depressing images and videos on social and mainstream media covering the world’s depravities and tragedies that I was going to end up in Purgatory because those searing images left me feeling sick and powerless and I merely scrolled, clicked or turned that page away. These issues were so daunting, I had no grand solutions – so I just wanted to crawl back into my cocoon of home renovation reality TV shows and daydreaming about the Property Brothers. But then I got to thinking……there must be another way to raise awareness about these horrendous issues and for all of us to be a part of a motivated solution. [My idea worth spreading is] we are moving on from the era of “Guilt Marketing” because guilt not only disempowers us, but also the people we are trying to help.

For changes that are truly sustainable and impactful, brainstorm harnessing the good, the happy, the funny, the hopeful, so that we can empower both the people we are trying to rally, and the people we are trying to help.”
